*A/W 13 Trend Report* His Is Hers

Oversize topcoats are a big story in outerwear this season, with Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, and Stella McCartney sending out single and double-breasted styles that could've been nicked from a boyfriend's closet.

First the boyfriend jeans, then the boyfriend blazer. This A/W say hello to the boyfriend overcoat. Yes, once again we’re getting our cool points from the bf’s closet. But with these chic shapes and details, can you blame us? Nonchalant and slightly too wide, the boyfriend overcoat is drastically oversized, shows dropped shoulders and extremely large lapels. While we first saw the style emerge last fall, it was impossible to ignore the amount of street style - girls rocking immensely oversized overcoats during New York Fashion Week in February. But this season designers such as Paul & Joe, Marni and 3.1 Phillip Lim really amped it up.

The trick to getting the perfect boyfriend coat lies in the shape. Don’t be afraid to go oversized and un-cinched. The lapels should be on the larger side and play with single or double breasted styles. Once you’ve got the fit down, the rest is up to you. Go bold with vibrant hues or keep it classic with blacks and greys. There’s no wrong way to wear!

I'd love to know where any of you guys got your winter coats from. Will you be browsing your bf's closet this winter?
