*Runway Review* Balmain Spring 14

The 80’s seem to be a creatively lucrative era for Balmain’s designer, Oliver Rousteing. After wooing us all last season with his dynasty inspired collection, this S/S he has blown our minds mixing 90s Chanel with signature 80s inspired shapes to amazing effect, may I add.

Although I consider houndstooth more of a A/W print (perhaps foolishly?), Rousteing opened his spring show with a kimono-like houndstooth leather and a matching co-ord skirt in the same fabric. Adored by many fashionistas for his ultra cool street wear, Olivier delivered in that manner as well. The word that springs to mind to me in regards to the collection is simply “Rihanna”. Literally, the woman could own every single piece and rock it only as she can. Example; leather baseball jackets, dungarees and gingham slacks are begging to take the streets by storm. This may not have been the most cutting edge fashion we’ve seen (or will see), but it definitely represented Rousteing’s vision for Balmain pretty well. Hopefully, it will move into another decade soon.

What did you think of Balmain Spring 2014?
